Evaluation

Final Pieces

The images above are my final pieces for this project, they carry the same message but show different animals in which it is happening, showing that the problem is bigger than most people think.

Typography Work

Above are different types of Sans serif typefaces that I have tired with this image to see which would work the best, to then use in my final piece. The typefaces I have used are; Bebas Neue, The Next Font and Coolvetica. I chose these because they have a simple feel and look to them making it easy for people to look at the image before the type, they also work with the image as well as help people understand.
The two types above this are my own designs, as one has an effect on it that gives it a print style, like its faded a little, much like the design of the image. The second image is an image inside the type, which could work with other projects, however because it is a light image it blends in with main image too much, therefore taking away the viewers eye from the main image.

Image change

The top image, of the two above, is my original experimentation for my final piece. However, one problem with it is the fact that its not my own images, as I just used ones from the internet to get an idea of how the design would work. Therefore, the second image above is the process of using my own image, although the hedgehog image is the same, I have removed any detail and kept the outline.

In similarity with the top two images, the images above have the same process in technicality and working. However, Because I am having to use my own images for my final pieces I have had to change the design slightly to fit with the images that I had to work with from my collection.

Typography Experimentation

The designs above are different representations of what is missing in real life. The designs have a subtle style in showing people what they're about, allowing the images to stay as the main focus points of the design however it links the typography and images together perfectly. The first two are images of forests and a mountain range, covered in green, replacing the plain colours. The third is a representation of grass.

Typography Development

For my poster designs I will be adding a slogan on to help with explaining the problems and also to help grab the eye of the reader. To start, the images above, I have gathered typefaces that are slick and simplistic that won't over power the images. However, I thought that to link the type and the images together more the type needed something extra to bring it all together. Therefore, in the image below I have added a print affect to them to make them also look like they were disappearing much like the environment today.
In addition to digital type, I have designed my own set of typography that could work well with this project/idea. In creating these designs I tried to keep in mind the fact that the images will be the main focal point of the poster, therefore the type will need to be subtle but eye catching to keep the reading understanding.

Photos - Contact sheets

These are the final photos that I will using to create my final pieces and any other design ideas.

Experimentation

My initial experimentation follows on from my initial ideas in testing how the ideas would work when made and if any problems came about. This first design will be one of my main ideas in the idea that this one tree represents all trees and because of deforestation, one day the tree will fully disappear, much like all the trees of the world.

This next design was to show people exactly what is happening/replacing endangered animals. Not just the polar bears of tigers but the animals that are living in your garden. I started this design in black and white to capture the sad fact of what is happening without a realistic brutal affect. However, it didn't come out as well as I original thought.

After seeing that the black and white version of this design didn't work I decide to change it back to the original colours and change the opacity on the hedgehog image just so that the building comes through more.

This final experimentation design shows the idea in what will be replacing the forests, much like the design above but a different perspective. However, to take this designs further and make them final I will be using my own images to create this designs, if I can't then I will make it so the images are known that its not my own.

Further secondary research

I found this design of the True detective opening credits to be very similar to my design ideas, therefore I wanted to get a better understanding of how the designer/creator Patrick Clair managed to create something so simple but beautiful in the idea of change. The way Patrick has used outlines of images as a base will also help me, as I will be able to use images that I have not been able to get, like endangered animals in Britain's countryside.
